If you look at my blog’s history, you may ask yourself: back in the saddle? Were you ever really in the saddle to begin with? Mentally, I was. But it was the beginning of a long and stressful pandemic. By the time I started getting into it, I was called back to work retail and my free time was gone (the limited operating hours schedule was actually worse!). In June I got a new job – yay! – and have been busy with that and recommitting to streaming. So what does that mean for my barely-there blog?
More content, less niche-ness
If you’ve ever read anything about blogging, Instagramming, personal business, or any sort of self-made success guide, they really hammer in that finding a niche is the key to success. You have to find a niche, commit to it, and then make connections and build your brand around that niche. So what do you do if you don’t love any niche in particular? You struggle to make content because you’re trying to commit to a niche that maybe isn’t committing to you.
If you look through all five or so of my previous posts, it’s pretty obvious I was going for a relatable mom-blog vibe (yes, even though I’m not a mom!). You know, the fun girl you see on Instagram and Pinterest who’s always got a cute coffee cup and perfect beachy waves. And that’s definitely the life I want to live, but it’s just not me! I basically never travel, rarely cook, and the most recent interior decor pieces I have are from when we first moved here over a year ago. Pretty much every blog niche you’d expect is not really my jam.
So what will I be posting about?
A lot of different things! Occasionally those things mentioned above may make an appearance – because I really do want to start doing those things more often – but going forward, it’s probably going to be primarily pop culture opinion pieces, for lack of a better term. That means reviews and discussions about film, tv, games, music, anything. I’ve found I’m really passionate about exploring the many different layers of entertainment – from themes, undertones, representation, and artistic choices to theories, predictions, overall discussion of in-universe material, and reviews. Finally put my English minor to good use!
Building my blog around things that I already do is definitely going to help me become more consistent and create better content overall instead of trying to present the facade of a dreamy Instagramable stay-at-home blogger. Finding my footing using subjects I know will help me find more enjoyment and create a better experience for my readers instead of trying to create capsule personalities for all the things I love doing in my life.
Overall, I want to be relatable. That is the most important thing in building an online presence and you can’t be relatable to others if you’re not even relatable to yourself! I hope it works out, but even if it doesn’t get me any readers, it’ll at least keep my boyfriend from having to listen to another one of my rants about Star Wars.
Thanks for reading my official relaunch post! If you haven’t already, check me out on social media. I’d also love to hear what kind of content you think is interesting or any suggestions about what kind of content to create.
