People always say if you want something and no one is making it, you have to make it yourself. So here we are. I’m making the content I want to see. While I know I’m someone who can’t pick a topic or stay in one niche, there’s a few things I can guarantee you will never see on my blog.

“How to Start a Blog” Post

I’m starting to wonder if every blog in the world is a blog about how to start your own blog! I know that Pinterest is showing me these pins because before I started this blog, I wanted to know these things. I wanted the secrets. Do you want to know the secret to starting a blog? There is none! You just start one! Just start! Can you tell how I feel about these posts yet? I know, you know, everyone knows, that all you need to do is search up “free blogging site”, pick one, and start writing. That’s it. Every “How To Start Your Own Blog” post is just another way for you to procrastinate actually doing it. I know because that was me. So I’m not about to add another blog post, downloadable, email class, or whatever to the already over-saturated market.

Disingenuous Sponsorship

Being real and honest is the most important thing to me in real life so why would it stop here? One day, when I’m a big girl affiliate blogger, you can be sure there will never be a product or service that gives me money I don’t fully believe in. While there may be things I don’t use myself (I’ve heard a lot of sponsorships from Audible but I’m not a big audiobook fan myself), making sure it’s a quality service or product is my top priority. Maybe I’ll just turn that kind of thing down. But I’ve seen so many beauty sponsorships that I can’t believe; how does that build trust in your content if they know you don’t even like the product or service you’re shelling?

In-Depth DIYs

I’m actually pretty crafty and artistic but once I get in the zone, stopping for mini photo ops is not on the schedule so we’re already a glass half-empty. Go ahead and dump out the rest of the glass because I’m also terrible at explaining how to do things and a lot of my arts and craft accomplishments are just me feeling out the medium. Having a plan or first draft are just not in my bones. My explanations of how I did something usually sounds like “I don’t know, I just kinda…figured it out and here we are.” Not exactly great content or a helpful tutorial. Not to mention I take all instructions as suggestions.

Clickbait-y Posts

I’m such a sucker for clickbait. The number of “Only 4.2% of Disney fans can answer all these questions” quizzes and “You’ll never believe what happened next” posts that I have been sucked into are just insane. I have to know. I have to take the quiz. “Top 5 secrets to whatever” and “things this person doesn’t want you to know” posts are the bane of my existence. What if there really is some useful information beneath that vague title? I have to read the whole thing to find out. And then what happens? I see more of those types of posts because I read through the entire thing. And yes, I did click on the next recommended post because I had to see “insane ways to do this thing you don’t even do anyways.”So don’t worry. I never want to create that kind of content because I hate clicking on something that I want to learn from only to be let down by the least useful information I’ve read all day.

Religious Posts

I’m pretty non-religious. I support a lot of the sentiment behind religion and it’s done great things for a lot of people. But I’m just not that into it. I come from a family of people who don’t go to church, even if they’re religious, so it’s something I never really got into. As I started an anthropology degree and became more exposed to religious beliefs, creation myths, and cultural differences, I became even less invested in any sort of religion. As a result, my content will never include anything about church, religion, devotionals, etc. because that’s just not part of my life! I encourage everyone to do what makes them happiest and I understand the community and joy that comes with belonging to a church family. I’ve found happiness without that sort of community even as those around me enjoy the benefits of religion.

I hope that through this, you can begin to know what kind of content to expect from me. I’ve learned that I usually struggle to figure what I will do, but it’s much easier for me to figure out what I won’t do. A lot of my personality and decision-making is based on what I didn’t like when someone else did it so it’s natural that when I was researching what I wanted to do with my blog, it was so obvious to me what kind of content I didn’t want to create.

What types of content just drive you up the wall (like my clickbait problem) or totally turn you off? Maybe it’s a post that you see on every blog and it’s never better. Let me know what kind of posts to stay away from or what kind of posts you do want to see; it’s always fun to share ideas!
