6. I have a “gunshot” birthmark.

Right in the middle-ish of my torso I have a mole on my stomach and on my back. They’re so similarly aligned that it’s a little strange. I think of it almost like a second bellybutton since it’s so centrally aligned and it’s a little weird to me that other people don’t have this same mark. I’m not sure who I would be without it!

7. I was in a really serious car accident.

In 2012 I was driving back to college overnight because I was young and dumb. I was exhausted from going to class all day, seasonal allergies, and menstrual fatigue. It was a perfect storm. Around 4:30 am I fell asleep and my car went off the road and flipped. I managed to walk away with a minor concussion and a broken elbow and hand. I wore a splint and hand pins in my hand for four weeks and healed pretty well. I still have the metal plate and bone graft to show for my trouble though. Lesson learned: don’t drive tired!

8. I’m a Beachbody Coach!

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. Another MLM. But it’s hard to argue with home workouts, regardless of how it’s sold. As someone who’s worked in commission retail for ages and was finally trying to get fit myself, it made sense to go to something that I’d done for years already (I’d tried Insanity and P90x with friends) and could make me money in the long run. the more programs I’ve tried through it the more I love the flexibility of their programs and how supportive the company is of you taking control of your fitness and trying to make yourself better. It’s so easy to be involved with group that makes sure their message is always about you feeling good about yourself, regardless of your goals. It’s not a preachy weight-loss program or a scammy diet and half-baked workout program that you can’t figure out as a beginner. It’s just so accessible and positive.

9. I’m really into zodiacs and horoscopes.

Everyone loves to deflect blame and if that’s not the best reason to be interested in your zodiac, I don’t know what is. I’m an Aries, which means I’m a headstrong leader, argumentative, and flare up about things quickly. I was born in the year of the Rooster and that leads me to be imaginative, too optimistic, prideful, and lacking self-discipline. While it’s very easy to use these things as an excuse, I try to use these generalizations as a cheat-sheet. If I’m aware of my traits, I can be conscious of how I act. I already know I’m quick to anger and love to argue back and forth; when I recognize these things happening, I can step back and calm down. It’s a pretty sueful call-out when you need it to be. The best parts about zodiacs, of course, are horoscopes. Isn’t it fun to see a little generic prediction about how your day or week is going to go with no real bearing on real life?

10. I love connecting with people!

It took me a long time to figure out my biggest passion in life. Team sports, band, speech and debate, and many different jobs have finally helped me piece together what I love doing. Being involved in activities all through high school and college let me meet tons of people and go lots of places. As I started working, my first job was at a resort and I loved it. Getting to help people enjoy their vacations was so rewarding and as I started working in retail, I found that same feeling helping people find gifts and outfits. Working for companies that value guest and customer experiences has shown me that what matters to me the most is making other people happy!
